Hartford WFP – 2025 Recap

Hello and Happy Holidays! Our team has been hard at work this year fighting for Hartford students, tenants, parents, and workers. Here is a recap of some of our work!

Housing

It has been a difficult year for tenants in Hartford. Eviction rates and rent prices remain high, out of state landlords continue to purchase and exchange properties, and in the worst of cases, people have lost their homes in building fires and received inadequate support from the city.

Councilman Michtom has been active on the issue, from standing with tenants at actions demanding accountability to introducing an ordinance change to support tenants displaced by building fires. If you would like to support Josh’s ordinance, you can reach out to City Council to let them know how you feel!

Education

Hartford’s elected officials continue to fail their responsibility to our public school students, but our team continues to fight for well-funded, well-supported schools for all of our children.

Despite another year of flat-funding from the city, total apathy from our governor, and a pause on construction of several majority black-and-brown neighborhood schools, we remain steadfast in our support for public education in Hartford. Two major bright spots in this regard have been WFP-endorsed Board of Ed member Shontá Browdy being selected by her colleagues as Board Chair, as well as the landmark Special Education Bill that was successfully passed and led by State Representative Maryam Khan.

Immigration

Councilman Michtom remains the strongest elected advocate for immigrant communities in Hartford, calling for Hartford to take a stronger stance against ICE activity in our City.

Honoring Black History

Councilman Michtom is also continuing the legacy of a project started by former Councilwoman Tiana Hercules with the Black Heroes Trail, a display of plaques along Main Street and Albany Ave highlighting some of the great leaders of our community.

Be on the lookout for new additions coming this February!

Supporting Workers

This year, our team has remained true to our mission of supporting Hartford workers by:
